Thousands of people in all parts of the world are making a decent living for themselves working from home in data entry. So what's involved in this niche business and how do you go about finding a job? Employment in this field is not too difficult to come by and should be quite easily obtained after a little research.
We need to understand what is involved and why it is that companies employ people for online data entry work that has been done in offices for years. Many thousands of companies in different types of business need people to prepare databases, records, manuscript transcriptions, lists, advertising and correspondence. Essentially these companies need to recruit staff to undertake these duties and a great many are directly employed in offices. However, more and more companies are seeing the advantages of employing people to work in their own homes. Data entry work is not complicated and can be undertaken by the vast majority of individuals after a little basic training. By recruiting people to work at home companies are able to save employment costs including staff benefits, office space and office equipment to say nothing of health and safety or redundancy expenses. More and more companies are therefore choosing to outsource this type of work to individuals who are prepared to perform the task at a lower cost.
There are also significant benefits for the individual that enable them to provide these services at less than they would normally expect to earn. This is because they in turn save money on commuting, work clothes and childcare. They will also enjoy the flexibility and the opportunity to fit work in around friends, family, sports and social activities.
You may have a deadline to meet, but there is nobody to tell you what hours you have to work. Provided you achieve the deadline set for a project, the company has no interest in when you actually perform the work. If a sick child requires collecting from school or some other domestic crisis requires your urgent attention, the work can wait until later in the day and you don't have to ask anyone's permission to leave. It's a classic win-win situation for all concerned.
You will need some fairly basic equipment including obviously a computer and a broadband Internet connection. It's not unknown for people in this industry to work from fast food outlets offering a free Wi-Fi connection, but it's not recommended. An ability to type quickly and accurately is an obvious advantage although by no means essential. Without relevant keyboard skills the job is simply going to take longer than would otherwise be the case.
Unfortunately, over recent years there has been a substantial increase in fraudulent sites, but these can be avoided with a little research and due diligence. The easiest and safest way to find work is by using well-established sites such as Elance.com, Freelancer.com and Guru.com. You can register with as many sites as you wish and you then bid for work that is posted on the site. It's worth investigating all of the sites mentioned and becoming familiar with the way they work so that you can hit the ground running when you decide to register.
One of the many advantages of data entry work is that it can be performed in a normal domestic environment, which might include barking dogs and crying children, that would be an obvious problem if the work you did involved telephone contact with customers. You can even sit at your desk typing away whilst listening to your favourite CD or local radio station.
You might find that you occasionally receive an unsolicited e-mail offering you data entry work at very attractive rates of pay. They frequently ask you to pay an upfront fee to register with a site and this may be in the form of a security deposit or a membership fee. You should always reject any such approach and confine the e-mail to the junk folder.
With a little research, a determination to succeed and some hard work, you can realistically expect to earn a living wage, or be supplementing an existing income, within a relatively short period of time.
