Work from home jobs are a great answer for those who have small children, a particular disability or don't wish to fight the commuter traffic. The problem is that although there appears to be an abundance of opportunities to do so, the fact of the matter is, that legitimate working at home jobs are pretty scarce and the amount of research and legwork involved in finding a reputable job agency can be daunting and frustrating.
Companies looking to scam good intentioned, unknowing people are rampant. With the Internet, these con artists have a gold mine of waiting victims to pounce on, reaching thousands in mere minutes by simply sending out mass emails. The scam business ventures brings in millions of dollars per year, and many collect the funds and are untraceable before you can utter the words working at home.
Still, there are a few legitimate home based businesses out there if you are willing to invest the time to find them. For these few existing businesses hiring people to work from their own home is a great way for you to make money, but more so benefits them because few if any of these businesses offer benefits, overtime and other high cost overhead.
The working from home businesses that are legitimate are the ones that will not promise to make you rich overnight. Instead, they often advertise as being a great second income opportunity or will advertise as part time employers; because this is honestly what they are and realistically state upfront what you can expect to bring in financially. The legitimate businesses will not risk their reputation by making unrealistic promises that they can't keep.
Typical legitimate jobs are those in customer service, telemarketing, sales or writing because none of these businesses require the purchase of equipment and all the resources an employee would need to do the job well are available such as fax machines, telephones and computers.
Companies such as Arise or LiveOps are well known and established outsourcing companies that offer legitimate work and actually pay quite handsomely in the work from home business. Both of these companies hire individuals at home to answer their massive inbound call business. For crafty and talented individuals, making jewelry, clothing, candles and other at home produced products can bring in a nice second income if you know where to sell the items. eBay offers self-employed individuals a platform to do so, but up and coming companies such as Etsy pay a little more and have great track records and ratings.
If computers or writing are where your niche is, independent websites such as Odesk and Elance are booming within the past few years and with little research, creative individuals can find a plethora of work from home people who rave about them. Both of these companies work on a rating system where once an employee accepts a job and completes it, they have the opportunity to rate their employer; the same goes for the employer to rate their employee. By utilizing this system, employees and employers know prior to engaging in a contract what can be expected from each. Again, the best referrals come from word of mouth and references.
