Tele-commuting was the 'in-thing' a decade ago. Outsourcing became the new in-thing in more recent years, but with the economy being as uncertain as it has been recently, there is a new rise of the tele-commuter, or people working from home, and many businesses are offering positions that allow workers to work from home on both full and part-time basis.
When you think about working from home, all you really need is a computer (desktop or laptop), a good Internet connection - I'd recommend high-speed broadband or cable, and possibly a phone. I say possibly because most people have a personal cell phone, and if you have high-speed Internet access you can make calls through programs like Skype, and cut out the need for an actual phone completely.
You can look for jobs such as Insurance Agent, Telemarketer, Data Entry, Medical Transcriptionist, and opportunities even exist as a writer of various kinds.
You could work as a ghost writer, article writer, or columnist. Depending on language skills you may be able to work offering translation services.
You can even work online from home as an affiliate, and in most cases there is no fee to sign up as an affiliate to a product or service. Ideally you want to be promoting products and services you know, have used, or have bought - but that is a discussion for a different article.
Now, something you always need to be aware of with any online position is avoiding those get rich quick schemes. For the most part, online jobs are not much different from regular jobs when it comes to rates of pay, but they do offer you huge benefits in the areas of convenience for travel and dress code, and even setting your own work hours.
And just like with any regular job, you still need to put effort in to get any reward out. Don't think working online is easy - while you can find and perform jobs on the Internet without paying any fees, you still have to put the effort in and get the work done, and that's not even taking into account the distractions you will have to overcome working from home.
Remember - when you are looking for legitimate jobs online, you shouldn't be expected to pay fees in order to work. You don't need to sign up for membership programs in order to work, there are plenty of honest employers out there looking for hard-workers like you, and who will pay you for your time and effort.
